I was reading my Bible app today at work and I happen to come across a verse of scripture that just took me by surprise. James 3:8 says "But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison." WOW! It made me think. The same tongue I use to praise God for all He's done for me, I also use to curse my fellow brother. How many other people seem to do that? Umm, everyone? We are to use our mouths for good not evil. We need to be more mindful of what we say to one another. Uplift, don't tear down.
It seems that more and more that I look around, I find anything but love in this world. We have become a society that is only worried about "what's in it for me?". To me, I can hardly fathom living my life only wondering "what's in it for me". Think back on the time when God sent his one and only Son to die for the whole world. Did he ever think, what's in it for me? Certainly not! John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish, but have ever lasting life." He loved us SO MUCH, that He died for us. Most people are worried about how much money they need to line their bank account, or how many cars, trucks, or boats they have. Materialistic possessions will only get you so far. What happens when you die? That car that you just had to have and spend massive amounts of money on, or the millions of dollars that are left in your bank account, it all stays right where it is. It doesn't go with you. The old saying is you never see a U-Haul truck following a hearse. So what does all of this mean? Instead of worrying about yourself and what you have, try taking the love approach. Love on people. Try following the example of our God. He loved and still loves. How much do you love? If you have to think about it, maybe it's time to take stock and refocus your priorities. Love will get you farther than anything else in this world.
